A journal of my journey in my gr12 year

What is the theme of this movie?  How do you know?  Write a declarative statement about the theme (what do we learn about the theme - don’t just write the theme; tell what we learn about it)

The theme of this movie is on jealousy. Hugo manipulated Odin because he was jealous about how his dad treated Odin so nicely. Roger became a pawn in Hugo’s plan because he was jealous that Hugo was dating with Desi. Odin felt into Hugo’s manipulation because he was jealous that his own girlfriend was cheating on his best friend Mike. From the theme, we learnt that jealousy would only make easy things worth.

What is/are the main conflict(s) in the movie?

Odin is a basketball superstar and coach loved him so much. Hugo, the coach’s son, was also in the basketball team but not as good as Odin. Hugo felt his dad was treating Odin better than him, and he was envy. Also, Odin had a girlfriend Desi, but Hugo took a series of action to make Odin think that Desi was cheating with his best friend Mike.

What is the climax of the movie? Why do you believe this to be the climax?

The climax of the movies happened when Hugo received the scarf from Emily, gave the scarf to Mike, and told Odin about Mike’s gift to Brandy. In the play, Hugo was the only one who knew about the whole story, and the rest of the characters was following his plan started fighting each others. The track of the scarf caused the misconstruing, and Hugo’s words to Odin amplified the conflict to an unconciliatory level.

What are Hugo's motives; why does he manipulate the other characters?

Hugo manipulated the other characters because he wanted to give Odin a hard time. Due the the jealousy of his dad treating Odin too nice, he just simply wanted to cause some trouble in Odin’s life. However, things got out of his control at the end.

Why might Odin be vulnerable to Hugo's actions?

Because he was deeply self-abased. At the beginning of the movie, Odin showed his extreme anger due to the questioning from Desi’s father. Odin was aggressive because he felt inferior so he fought whenever he felt threatened. Because of his self-abasement, a misconstruing of scarf could sow dissension between Desi and him and further hurt him deeply.
