This quotation is also predicting that the story of the character will probably be strongly connected to the war. At the same time, this quotation shows Scarlet’s extraordinary dislike and distrust about the war, which indicates her possible future panic when the war actually starts. From this quotation, readers are supposed to understand that Scarlet has no preparation or experience about the war. The novel is trying to show a lonely young girl’s struggling and effort facing the monster of war.
