A journal of my journey in my gr12 year

Both Othello and Robert Mercati, the diamond thief killed their wives due to their morbid jealousy. Both of them suffered the jealous delusions which made them accused their wives of cheating. Just as Othello asked Iago for help to learn more details Desdemona’s behaviour, Robert Mercati hid electronic bugs in their room to spy on Mrs. Mercati. One fact that made Mr. Mercati different from Othello was that Mr. Mercati used to know that his jealousy was irrational logically so he asked for treatment, but Othello never doubt the appropriateness of his emotion. In both events, the Othello syndrome had caused the final tragedy.

Geometry was a helpful article for my extended research essay. My topic was about the development of mathematics and the impact of mathematics on human, and geometry is one of the major branches of mathematics. This article started with the history of geometry and then concept of geometry. It went through the basic key events that developed geometry. After reading this article, I had the outline of the development of geometry in my mind. I will have my future research on what happened in each period where there was huge breakthrough in geometry category, and trying to figure out the inner relation between mathematics and human development.

When one of the guy on stage was answering the question of "why is America the greatest country", his answer impressed me.
His speed and punctuation definitely strengthen his speech. At the beginning, when he was struggling on why is America the best country, he speaks in fluent sentence without much rise and fall. His words are kind of boring. When he finally decided to talk on the topic of that America is not the best country, his voice suddenly changes. He spurts out the sentence fast without interruption. To be honest, I didn't hear what he was saying clearly, but I believe that he didn't expect anyone to hear it clearly. All he said was that "there is a lot of reasons of why America is not the greatest country." However, instead of saying it directly, he bombed listeners with his list of reasons, which impressed the idea into the audiences' mind deeply.

The job of the courts is to evaluate security measures, to decide whether privacy should be sacrificed for security. However, according to Daniel J. Solove, the courts are not doing their jobs appropriately: whenever the government mentions the word “terrorism”, the courts automatically decided that the security wins. Everyone knows that some security measures are not worthy to sacrifice the privacy, but what if something bad actually happens? The airport security measures are violating everyone’s privacy, but what if someone is trying to hijack a plane? Checking everyone’s luggage indeed violates the privacy of the population, but not checking them allows a small possibility of a great disaster. In mathematical sense, the total harms in both cases are the same. But life is not mathematics; people tend to decrease the possibility of the big disaster as much as they could by sacrificing some smaller issues. Just as what happened in the All Troubles of the World, people sacrifice all their privacy just to eliminate a few crimes with the possibility around 20%. It’s not wrong doing the best to avoid some tremendous trouble, but sometimes, it is also important to evaluate the worthiness of some security measures.

Even in the 21st century, Russia is still a country which is very conservative on LGBT issues. The law in Russia had ruled that “non-traditional sexual relations” are not allowed to be propaganda in Russia. As the Winter Olympics of 2014 holds in Russia, a huge problem is raised: the lawsuit is threatening the safety of those homosexual athletes; the situation for LGBT people in Russia is so dreadful that the athletes may not even be secured in the Olympic village! LGBT people in Russia are similar to the Jews in the 20th century Germany. Both of those two groups had the common and only crime which is the accident of their birth. Blaming gay people for their sexuality is similar to Hitler’s action in the 20th century making Jews the scapegoat! They did nothing wrong, so why should they be censured?

But then another question rises. Where should we clarify the line between guilty and not? We all know and accept that gay and Jewish people should not be condemned because they made no error. How should we consider a baby born drug-addicted? The baby had done nothing wrong, and it was just his mother who was addicted to the drug and had the symptom as the heritage to him! We all know it is illicit to take drugs; however, if the innocent, drug-addicted baby knows definitely nothing and his mother just give him drug to satisfy his drug addiction, should we criticize the child? He should be blamed because he is taking drugs, but should not because he was born that way. The line between right and wrong is so blurry that no absolute fairness can be achieved. We may never solve the problem perfectly and clearly, but as the law system of our society consummate, hopefully we can solve this kind problem more in a more appropriate way.
